Runaway Reaction

For the runaway reaction case we will take an expample from the literature entitled "Simplified Vent Sizing Equations for Emergency Relief Requirements in Reactors and Storage Vessels", by Joseph Leung of Fauske and Associates, Inc.

The key to performing this calculation is to determine the self-heat rate which is know or determine from colorimetry testing.  

1-A  The fundamental equaitons are list below

1-B  The Mach II input screen is presented to show all input data.  The mach II data has been converted from SI units to British units.

1-C  The Mach II results are similar to the results givin the Leug article when converted from SI units.  The small difference in two-phase relieivng capacity is due to Leung using properties at the Set Pressure rather than the relieving condition or an average between the two.  However, you will not that the results as he states in his article are not very different.  As you can verify the time ot empty and the thime to reach peak condition are almost exact.
